How AI agents help run a real business in Oman

Ali Adnan Haider Darwish · · 2 min

Here is what AI agents do in a working business in Muscat, and the rules we use to keep them useful and safe.

At BHD Group, AI agents now handle a large share of routine work. They do not replace the team. They take the repetitive steps, so people spend their time on customers and decisions.

What the agents do

The rules that make it work

AI agents are only as good as their rules. These are ours:

  1. One source of truth. Prices come from the price book. Customer data comes from the ERP. An agent never invents a number.
  2. People approve money. Payments, refunds and anything that moves money need a person's approval.
  3. Everything is recorded. Every message sent and every action taken lands on the register, with who did it and when.
  4. Test the real path. Before an agent sends anything, it tests the same path the customer will use.
  5. Small steps. Each agent does a narrow job well. We add a new job only when the last one is reliable.

What did not work

Our first attempts wrote messages that sounded like a brochure. Customers in Oman expect short, warm messages, not marketing text. We rewrote the rules so the agent writes the way our team writes.

We also stopped letting an agent guess. When it is not sure, it asks.

What it means for small businesses

A small business in Oman can now get help that only large companies could afford a few years ago. The cost is not the software. The cost is writing your own rules down clearly: your prices, your process, your tone. Once that is written, an AI agent can follow it.

Start with one job that repeats every day and costs time. Write the rules. Let the agent do it under review for a month. Then decide.
